Marimba music returns

Homer's marimba band, juJuba, performs a no-smoking concert at Alice's Champagne Palace on Thursday, July 25, at 7:30 p.m. The band includes Laura Patty, Stu Schmutzler, Jenny Carroll and Paul Dungan with guest artists Michael and Osha Breez, Judith Carter and Karen Yoshitomi. This group of eight will be just returning from a concert in McCarthy, and will also be teaching marimba workshops in Homer on the 26th and 27th. A youth workshop will be held at the Homer Boys and Girls Club on Friday, July 26. Call 235-2772 for more information. 'Nunsense' extended

Due to "overwhelming demand," Pier One Theatre has announced it is adding a performance to the run of "Nunsense," the musical comedy featuring a group of fund-raising nuns. The nuns are trying to raise money to bury several of their sisters who ate a bad bowl of soup and are waiting in the convent freezer for placement in their final resting place. "Nunsense" is performed tonight and Sunday at 7:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday at 8:15 p.m. Tickets are $12 with discounts. For more information, call 235-7333.

Lawn music on tap

KBBI's annual Concerts on the Lawn will be held Saturday, July 27, and Sunday, July 28, at its regular meadow location off Main Street. Performing are a long list of headline acts including Jane Ferman, Rumblefish, The John Walsh Trio, Three-Legged Mule, Nervis Rex, Esther Golton, Larry Zarella, Atz Kilcher, Andy Baker, The Spur Highway Spankers, the English Bay Band, juJuba, the Karen Strid Quartet, Loose Gravel, Monkshood and many more. The concerts start at 5 p.m. on Saturday, running through 10 p.m. and resume Sunday at noon, running through 9 p.m. A two-day pass for members is $20, for nonmembers is $25, for member families, $55, for family nonmembers $65, and for seniors and kids $15. A Saturday pass is $10 for members, $12 for nonmembers, and a Sunday pass is $15 for members, $18 for nonmembers. Call 235-7721 for more information.

Lavallee signing prints

Anchorage artist Barbara Lavallee will be at the Art Shop Gallery on Saturday from 1:30 to 7 p.m. signing her prints and books. Lavallee will have a new open-edition print available of Native hunters and sea animals titled "Bounty of the Sea." For more information, call 235-7076.
