Parade winners announced

The Homer Chamber of Commerce has announced the following winners in its annual Fourth of July parade float competition:

  • Group: Friendship Center's Flowers of Freedom float, $100;

  • Individual: Nyssa Baechler, Free To Be Me float, $100;

  • Bicycle: Noel Welles Maxwell, Red/White/ Blue float, $100;

  • Best Use of Theme: Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Family Tree float, $100;

  • Best of Show: Kick-n-It 4-H Club, Patriotic demonstration, $200.

    Web site promotes local business

    A new Web site promoting local marine services in Homer has been launched. The site offers business listings for a variety of marine trades and services in Homer. Based on the printed version of "Boat Owner's Guide to Homer," the site has business listings, a map, harbor info and a link to the port Web site. The site, found at www.homermarinetrades.com, is sponsored by the Homer Chamber of Commerce Marine Trades Committee.

    Chamber Mixer on Spit

    The July Homer Chamber of Commerce Mixer will be held Friday, July 19, from 5-7 p.m. at Honey's Place Bed & Breakfast, located 1.5 miles down the Spit Road. The mixer is co-hosted by Eagle Eye Helicopter, which specializes in aerial photography. There will be music, refreshments, a bonfire and door prizes. The Mixer is open to chamber of commerce members and those interested in joining the chamber.

    Car raffle tickets on sale

    One of the three shiny vehicles parked in front of the Homer Chamber of Commerce building on the Sterling Highway could be yours with the purchase of a raffle ticket. Each ticket costs $100, and 500 tickets will be sold. The winner can choose a vehicle or cash. For more information, call 235-7740.
