Raymond D. Walsh Jr.

Jan. 30, 1943-July 7, 2011

Longtime Alaskan and Anchor Point resident Raymond D. Walsh Jr., 68, died July 7, 2011, at South Peninsula Hospital from pancreatic cancer.

Memorial services were held at the Anchor Point Nazarene Church.

Raymond was born Jan. 30, 1943, in Watertown, Mass. He graduated from high school and served in the U.S. Air Force. He moved to Anchorage in 1964. While in Anchorage, he owned three Checker Cabs and was a bartender at the Alley Cat Bar and Hunter Bar. He retired at 52 and in 2006 moved to Anchor Point. Raymond was a member of the Catholic faith and had served as an altar boy. He enjoyed fishing, Yahtzee, sightseeing and being home.

"Raymond and I had 40 very good years together. We were always teasing each other, laughing and telling jokes. We had two beautiful children, Sarah Mae Nicely and David F. Walsh. I love him and I will miss him dearly," his wife said. "I wish to thank everyone at the Anchor Point and Homer Senior Citizens Centers for accepting me for who I am and their loving support. They became my family and all I ask for is your prayers. Thanks also to the South Peninsula Hospital nurses and staff."

Raymond is survived by his wife, Alice of Anchor Point; daughter, Sarah Mae Nicely of Barrow; son and daughter-in-law, David F. and Michele Lacy Walsh of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandchildren, John, Mellisa and Madison of Barrow and David F. Jr. and Tyler Ray of Las Vegas; brothers-in-law, Joe Johnson of Kiana, Jack Johnson and wife Nita of Kiana, Roy Johnson and Emery Johnson and wife Corkey all of Noorvik; sisters-in-law, Dolly Smith and husband, Donald, and Annie Barr and husband, Raymond all of Kiana; Josie Brower of Anchorage; Edith Snyder of Kotzebue; and Katherine Bingo of Kiana; and adopted grandkids, Malie, Hina and Keith Jr.
