Islands and Ocean Visitor Center

Kachemak Bay Research Reserve and Fish and Wildlife Service offers free, guided interpretive estuary and beach walks until mid-August. Meet at the visitor center patio for estuary walks, held 1-2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Meet at the Bishop's Beach parking lot for beach walks, held 11 a.m.-noon on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Discovery labs are held 1-3 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays in the visitor center lab. The free, hands-on labs let participants of all ages explore a variety of coastal science topics, which change weekly. Halibut: Alaska's giant flatfish is the topic for July 15 and 16. What's up down there? The ocean, seafood and our changing climate is next.

Events are free and open to the public. Visit www.islandsandocean.org.
