Auction helps many good causes

The Rotary Club of Homer Downtown (the Wednesday night folks) would like to thank everyone who helped make our 2012 fundraising auction such a success. Without the generous donations from several area businesses and numerous individuals (who have received individual thank-yous from us), it would have been a much smaller event. A special thank you to them. The evening was made even more enjoyable by the performance of the Homer Ukuklele Group and Burnt Down House. They had us all singing along and tapping our toes. What fun. And the food prepared and catered by the Vagabond Cafe was truly scrumptious.

This years event celebrated our numerous grantees those individuals and organizations that have received money from our club, primarily for youth-related programs and activities. From our inception, our club has focused on youth, in general, and on at-risk youth, in particular. But we also have donated money to other worthwhile organizations in town, including the Homer Community Food Pantry, Share the Spirit, Homer Senior Citizens and Hospice of Homer. In the past six years, our small but active club has spent more than $50,000 on projects to improve the lives of Homer youth. Our various fundraising efforts have helped us do that.

If you would like to learn more about us, come to one of our meetings. We meet each Wednesday night at 6 p.m., upstairs at the Bidarka. Please join us. Wed love to see you there.

Chair of 2012 Auction Commitee
