Insurance proof needed
As of July 1, all motorists are now required by law to have proof of insurance in their "immediate possession."

Homer Police Lt. Randy Rosencrans said the law will hopefully persuade more people to insure their vehicles and, thus, avoid accidents where the victim is unable to recoup the cost of damages.

"Unfortunately, it's really common," he said.

Rosencrans said the new law requires drivers to have documentation to show that their insurance is current and who the provider is when stopped by a law enforcement officer, along with their license and vehicle registration.
