Homer's co-ed SBS softball team only lost one game on the road to the D-league championship at the Firecracker co-ed softball tournament in Kenai last weekend. SBS started making its way to the top spot by winning four games on Saturday. After winning one and losing one to Rae Rae's Coffee of Anchorage on Sunday, the team won the championship game 11-16 to claim nine-team division victory. Sheila Velles, Seanna Gunn, Ryan Turkington and Chris Owen were named tournament all-stars. Tournament most valuable players were Scott Owen and Sarah Haeg. SBS is one of 10 Homer City League Softball teams. Three weeks remain in the regular softball season, where games are held at 6:30 and 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday (and sometimes Friday) at Jack Gist Park. The city tournament is scheduled for July 30-31 and state Aug. 6-7.
