A man who evaded Homer Police in a high-speed car chase on the Homer Spit on June 23 was arrested June 29 at the Anchorage office of the Division of Motor Vehicles. Anchorage police arrested Larry Volz Jr., 55, without incident after a records check showed he had an arrest warrant. Police also seized a gun. Volz was charged with third-degree assault and first-degree failure to stop at the direction of a peace officer, both felonies, and reckless driving. Volz had been wanted by the Federal Communications Commission for allegedly making illegal radio broadcasts. Police tried to stop him on the Spit, but Volz allegedly drove away, passing cars at speeds of 80 to 100 mph and almost hitting a runner on the Spit Trail.
