Spit Run spirit alive and well

We would like extend our thanks and gratitude to the many people who kept the spirit of the Spit Run alive and supported its transition from the Homer News to becoming a fundraiser for the Homer High School running programs.

Thank you to Lori Evans, Michael Armstrong and Adam Bauer of the Homer News for allowing us this opportunity, sharing your years of expertise and supporting our efforts at all levels. Mike Illg from the City of Homer Community Recreation program championed our cause from the start, and it would not have happened without his countless hours of planning, coordination and hard work. South Peninsula Hospital and its employees continued their generous sponsorship and volunteer efforts both in the planning stages and on race day. A special thanks to Derotha Ferraro from SPH who is second to none in enthusiasm and amazing ability to get things done.

Race Day volunteer efforts from SPH, Homer News, HHS runners and parents, Homer Hockey Divas, U.S. Coast Guard Buoy Tender Hickory, Community Recreation intern Alex Inglima, and local runners provided the necessary support from set up to take down and everything in between.

Last but certainly not least, a huge thank you to all the amazing participants. Your generous donations provided the necessary funding needed to support the Homer High School Cross Country Running and Track and Field programs for the 2011-2012 season.
