Students weigh in
Editor's note: The following letters were written by students in Caroline Venuti's summer school class.

Dear Editor,

When I go to the beach there is garbage dumped on the beach. It worries me because some people walk on the beach and the people get glass in their feet and it hurts. Also, the beautiful beach is unsafe for people and pets. So please, keep our beaches clean by picking up your garbage.

Ashley Carpenter, fourth grade

Dear Editor,

In Homer we have a landfill. What is in a landfill? Fifty percent paper, 20 percent other, 13 percent food and waste, 10 percent plastic, 6 percent metal and 1 percent glass. We need to recycle the paper, plastic and glass so the landfill won't be full so quickly. Use the recycle bins at Eagle grocery store.

Rosalie Miller

Dear Editor,

I read a book called "Where Does the Garbage Go?" In New York the dumps there take their trash in the lake. Animals are dying over trash. Keep Homer clean by using the recycling.
