In an effort to meet minimum king salmon escapement goals in the Anchor and Ninilchik rivers, and to meet the Ninilchik River king salmon egg-take goal, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game announced the following restrictions, implemented by emergency orders issued Monday: • The Anchor and Ninilchik rivers will close to sport fishing beginning Sunday at 12:01 a.m., and will remain closed through 11:59 p.m. on July 15. • The use of bait and multiple hooks will be prohibited in the Anchor and Ninilchik rivers from July 16 through July 31. King salmon may not be targeted and king salmon caught while fishing for other species may not be removed from the water and must be released immediately. • The use of bait and multiple hooks will be prohibited in Deep and Stariski creeks from Sunday through July 31. King salmon may not be targeted and king salmon caught while fishing for other species may not be removed from the water and must be released immediately. • King salmon may not be retained while sport fishing within one mile of shore in the salt waters of Cook Inlet south of the latitude of the mouth of the Ninilchik River to the latitude of Bluff Point from Sunday through July 15. Catch-and-release fishing for king salmon is allowed, but king salmon may not be retained or possessed. King salmon that are caught may not be removed from the water and must be released immediately.
