Run to the water

The annual Homer Spit Run is Saturday. The long-running event is a certified 10-kilometer race open to runners and walkers of all ages and abilities.

Pre-registration is available at the Community Recreation Office in the commons at Homer High School between noon and 8 p.m. today and Friday. On the day of the race, late registration and check-in is from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. at the high school, with the race beginning at 10.

The race finishes near the end of the Homer Spit, just past the ferry terminal. A free shuttle will be offered until noon for runners to return to Homer High to pick up cars.

This year the race is a fundraiser for the high school cross country running and track and field programs. A donation of $10 is suggested.

Sponsors of this year's race are the Homer Parks & Rec, South Peninsula Hospital, the high school running programs and the Homer News.

Prizes for the fastest man and woman will be given. Every racer who finishes will receive a Spit Run decal. Results will be posted on the deck of Land's End, and complete results will be online at www.homernews.com

A special Spit Run lunch will be available for purchase at Land's End. Race participants are invited to watch the start of the annual Homer Yacht Club Land's End Regatta at the completion of the Spit Run.
