  • Richard Leland, former city administrator for the Prince William Sound fishing community of Cordova, was selected to become Homer's new city manager.

  • Swarms of spruce bark beetles, the insects that have killed forests around Cooper Landing, emerged from logs Klukwan Forest Products is storing on the Homer Spit. Based on assurances from state and federal foresters that any beetles in the logs would not threaten local forests, the city had approved the storage. But now a Canadian forest expert has warned that the beetles might spread around Kachemak Bay.
