According to statistics published by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, there was a decrease of 58,706 and 55,428 nonresident fishing licenses sold in the last two years of 2009 and 2010 respectively. The decrease is from the previous three-year average of 314,483 licenses sold per year.
Because of the nearly 20 percent reduction of Alaska nonresident fishermen in the years 2009 and 2010 and in future years there is no need to reduce the sport fishing daily limit of halibut by 50 percent.
