A multi-media presentation on transcendental meditation will be held 6-8 p.m. today and June 23 in the Library Conference Room. Transcendental meditation is an easy and enjoyable mental technique practiced for 20 minutes - while giving the body a state of rest twice as deep as sleep. The Kachemak Bay Birders' third Saturday birding trip will be at 8 a.m. June 18 at Mossy Kilcher's Seaside Farm to observe and learn about Homer's nesting songbirds. There is no charge and all are welcome. There is some parking at the top of the hill. Please don't block driveways. For more information, call 235-1598.

Cook Inlet Regional Citizens Advisory Council will hold its quarterly Council meeting at 9 a.m. on June 17 in the conference room at Cook Inlet Aquaculture on K-Beach Road. The public is welcome to attend. For more information or an agenda, call 1-800-652-7222 or (907) 283-7222.

The Synchro Sea Stars will hold "Sync Or Swim," a Beginning Synchronized Swimming Workshop from 3-4 p.m. on June 22 at the Kate Kuhns Aquatic Center. All ages are welcome but participants must be able to swim the length of the pool. Cost is $10.

A workshop on natural building with clay fiber will be held This hands on workshop will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 25-26 at the very end of east skyline drive at the Canyon Arts Natural Building School timberframe structure. Participants will learn how to work with local natural light clay fiber for low cost, healthy, breathable, low embodied energy building insulation. Help Bikes Rock Homer, the Homer Cycling Club and Cycle Logical make bikes available to the community. A worksession will be held 6-9 p.m. on July 1 at Cycle Logical. Mechanics and parts-sorters are needed, as well as someone to operate the grill and another to pedal the bike smoothie machine. The goal is to sort good parts from bad and get as many bikes rolling as possible. If you are interested, please call Derek at 299-7746.

The Kachemak Classic annual golf fundraiser sponsored by the Kachemak Board of Realtors, the Golf Scramble Tournament will be July 16 at the Fireweed Meadows Golf Course in Anchor Point. Registration will be open 8:15 a.m.-9:30 a.m., with tee off at 10. Cost is $50 per person in advance and $55 the day of. Mulligans are $10 and limited to one per player. Sponsor the event for $250. All proceeds help Hospice, Food Pantry and scholarships. Help improve Hornaday and Bayview Parks by supporting Families First in the Acts of Happiness online contest. You can help by voting online each day through July 31. If the project receives the most votes, it goes to finals, where it could win the grand prize of $20,000 for improvements to both parks. Entries are being accepted for Picture the Heart of Homer, an amateur photo contest featuring Beluga Slough and Bishop's Beach. Photos must be taken in Beluga Slough or on Bishop's Beach and owned by the entrant, who does not make a living selling photographs. The contest is sponsored by the Friends of Alaska National Wildlife Refuges and the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge at Islands and Ocean. Entries must be received by 5 p.m. on Sept. 16.
