Survival program valuable
Dear Editor,

The seventh-grade staff at Homer Middle School would like to thank the community of Homer for its fifth year of support of our survival program, which develops in students the confidence and skills necessary to save lives -- their own and others. This year we taught sessions in cold-water safety, boating safety, navigational basics, orienteering, shelter building and signaling and "Old World"/Native survival skills.

Special thanks go to the Alaska Marine Safety Education Association in Juneau, the Homer High Pool, Laidlaw Bus Company, Anna Borland-Ivy, Sandy Mazen, Roger Campbell, Scott Feldman, Officer Lewald of the Coast Guard, Alaska State Parks, Eagle Enterprises of Homer, the Pratt Museum and parent volunteers of Homer Middle School.
