  • Members of the Homer Advisory Planning Commission opposed any hotel building on the Homer Spit, saying that the danger of tsunami waves would pose too much risk in the event of an earthquake near the Mt. St. Augustine volcano.

    Commissioner Homer Thompson went further in recommending that even camping should be discouraged on the Spit.

  • The Kenai commuter line SouthCentral Air has been granted authority to fly scheduled service between Homer and Anchorage. Airline president Dave Diamond said he had been trying more than two years to gain permission for the route.
