Homer Alaska - Letters

As the school year just finished, I want to thank the local teachers, administrators and secretaries of each of our local schools who have worked so well with Alaska artists and this arts center over the years to grow Artist in Schools. The program depends on the generous and visionary efforts of teachers and administrators who are inspired to voluntarily take the extra time to work with me and the artists to schedule, study (in teachers workshops), assist, document and evaluate the programs.

Artist in Schools thrives with equal contributions from participating schools, Alaska State Council in the Arts with support from the Rasmuson Foundation, Homer Foundation's Ashley J. Logan Fund and Bunnell Street Arts Center with support from Jazzline and Maura's Cafe.

This year, 10 local schools participated. The program has grown from a small, private donation of $1,000 by Lois and Paul Andrews in 1998 which started it all, to a $30,000 investment of donors, schools and sponsors including cash and in-kind contributions. Thank you, community partners.
