Poppies help us remember

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 16 Homer, would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for a successful poppy event, not only for the wonderful community participation but to all those who volunteered Memorial weekend. We especially want to thank Safeway for allowing us each year to utilize their facilities. We would also like to thank the more than 30 businesses who allowed us to put Poppy cans in their businesses. All the funds that are raised stay in the community to be used for veterans, children and youth programs.

We must never lose focus of what Memorial Day means. It is a time to pause, to reflect, remember and give thanks to our many veterans who have died in our nation's service. Wearing a poppy symbolizes that remembrance.
