It was lucky 13 for the Homer Yacht Club's Sourdough Regatta, the club's first race of the season Saturday. At least it was lucky for Capt. Ron Downing of the Morning Star.

Downing steered his 36-foot, teak-trimmed Bristol Channel Cutter into first place in a field of 13 entries.

Starting line for the regatta was marked with buoys off the Deep Water Dock. After rounding the tip of the Spit, the course continued to the Archimandritof Shoal Buoy, known locally as the "Archy Buoy" or the "green can," on to 60-foot Rock and back to the starting line for an overall distance of 9.09 nautical miles.

"The wind filled in nicely and I think everyone had a good sail," said Homer Yacht Club Commodore Lee Dewees, captain of the Alandra's Lee. "There weren't any big seas. All in all, it was a good race."
