Golf tourney: rewarding fundraiser

Hospice of Homer held its second annual Holes "Fore" Hospice of Homer Golf Tournament at the Fireweed Meadows Golf Course in Anchor Point on May 14, and what a success it was. Hospice wants to extend a thank you to the many community members and businesses that made the event a day of fun and a rewarding fundraiser.

To all the golfers, a huge thanks for sharing your joy of golf in support of Hospice. Special kudos to the team who took first place in the tournament, Mike Houghton, Chris Morin, Jim Arndt and Charlie Kiefer, who shot a 7 under 47. Congratulations to Sandy McDaniel and Chelsea Johnson as winners of closest to the pin. The putting contest was won by John Gibson.

Thanks to the generous 52 businesses and individuals who sponsored holes and donated money and prizes for the tournament.

A big salute goes to Buzz Kyllonen. Among other things, Buzz provided the essential element of the event: the golf course.

Last but not least, appreciation to Rene Alvarez for all his efforts on behalf of hospice and the tournament, from making the trophies to manning the golf carts, selling mulligans and beverages, to his ready smile and enthusiastic "yes" to whatever we asked of him.

For those of you who were not able to take part in this event, be watching for details of the Third Annual Holes "Fore" Hospice of Homer Golf Tournament Fundraiser to be held next spring.
