Gov. Sean Parnell last Friday signed a bill authored by Rep. Paul Seaton, R-Homer, expanding the list of nicotine products banned for sale to minors. Along with cigars, cigarettes and chewing tobacco, the bill adds products like candy-style mints, toothpicks and breath strips that have nicotine added to them. House Bill 224 makes it a violation for anyone to give or sell a product containing nicotine to a minor. A violation would carry a minimum fine of $300. Both the House and Senate unanimously passed the bill. The takes effect Aug. 22.
