Thin-clads run at state

Nahanni Wills posted her best time of the year in the preliminary heat of the 100-meter hurdles Friday at the State Track and Field Championships as she qualified for Saturday's finals. Wills finished eighth overall.

Wills, who took 11th overall in the 300-meter hurdles, was joined at the meet by fellow Homer High School track and field teammates Travis Kauffman and Cody Smith.

Kauffman knocked 10 seconds off his personal best in the 3,200-meter run, placing 10th with a time of 10 minutes, 7.89 seconds.

Smith finished 15th overall in the 400.

American Legion tryouts

American Legion baseball tryouts will be held at Homer High School on Monday at 10 a.m.

All kids who won't turn 19 years old before August 1 are welcome to try out. Call Lary Kuhns at 235-4097 or 299-0617 for details.

Run for Women Saturday

The Homer Run for Women gets rolling at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with runners starting at Mariner Park at the base of the Homer Spit.

The 5-miler is a fund-raiser for cancer research and a local mammography program. The race organizers are looking for volunteers. Interested persons should call 235-0582 or 235-3436 for more information.
