As well as some of the City Council members participating in the sister city trip to Teshio, Hokkaido, Japan, there were some Homer area citizens who also joined the delegation. Dick and Anne Koskovich; Maynard and Mari-Anne Gross; Dean and Joanna Baugh; Steve, Noko and Mike Yoshida; and Susan and Zak Cushing. Homer was very well represented with a cross section of its population, including a new generation. The city of Teshio and its Sister City Association and the host families were extremely generous and gracious to all of us, but the members of the Homer delegation also returned that generosity from their own resources.
The good will created from these visit exchanges cannot be easily measured and expressed. But somehow the friendships created seem to erase some of the sadness from our past, forge a bond of peace for the present and give us hope for our future.
The Homer Sister City Association is in the process of becoming more official in its organization. Anyone who is interested in joining, and all past 150 Homer citizens who have visited Teshio are invited to become more active in this association.
