Homer High School graduate Jenna Mahoney has been honored by Ariat Boot Company of Union City, Calif., with a $300 college scholarship after being named the Alaska High School Rodeo Association student president for 2010-2011.

The Homer Foundation has awarded the following scholarships:

The Homer Community Science Scholarship, Mitchell Wyatt of Homer High School, $1,000 to study exercise science and physical therapy; Ashley Ketelle of Homer High School, $500 to pursue nursing;

The Alain and Daniel Rieser Scholarship, Keeley Chiasson of Homer High School, $3,000 to support travel to Amsterdam, Sweden and France;

The Drew Scalzi Memorial Maritime Scholarship, $500 each to Shelbi Bishop to study natural sciences at the University of Wyoming; Alecia Stafford to study medicine; Kelsey Coates to study aviation at Metropolitan State College of Denver;

The Beluga Writing Scholarship, $3,000 to James Hutchinson of Homer High School to pursue writing at the University of Puget Sound;

The Diane Wambach "Shoot for the Stars" Scholarship to Sam Bennett of Ninilchik, $1,000 to study drafting;

The Kachemak Bay Medical Clinic Scholarship, $2,000 to Kelsey Coates of Homer High School to study aviation at Metropolitan State College of Denver;

Health Care Providers Scholarship, $1,000 each to Homer High School students Marissa Paul to study medicine, Mitchell Wyatt to study exercise science and physical therapy and Ashley Ketelle to study nursing.

The A. W. "Bill" Johnson Teacher Education Scholarship Fund, $1,000 to Sarah Holub of Nikolaevsk to study at Kenai Peninsula College;

The Alice Witte Memorial Scholarship Fund, $500 to Homer High School junior Lauren Cashman to attend an outside summer volleyball camp.

Note: Connections is currently enrolling new and returning students for the 2011-2012 school year. Call to make an enrollment appointment. Kindergarten students must be 5 years old by Sept. 1. All kindergarten students and students new to the school district must bring a photocopy of their birth certificate to the appointment.

Faith Christian Preschool is now registering children 3-5 years old for the 2011-2012 preschool year. It is located at Faith Lutheran Church, 1000 Soundview Avenue, across from West Homer Elementary School. For options available, call 235-7600.

Homer Head Start is accepting applications for 3- to 5-year-olds for the 2011-2012 year. All are welcome. Center-based and home-based programs. For information, call 235-4322.
