Nov. 25, 1930-May 13, 2011

Homer resident, Mrs. Dorothy Grace Sheffield, 80, died Friday, May 13, 2011, at Soundview Assisted Living in Homer.

Memorial services were held May 24, 2011, at The Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home in Meridian, Idaho. She was buried at the Meridian Cemetery in Idaho. An additional memorial service will be held at the Anchor Point Church of the Nazarene sometime in June.

Mrs. Sheffield was born Nov. 25, 1930, in Caldwell, Idaho. She completed one year at the College of Idaho in Caldwell. She helped run the family farm from 1949 to 1995. In 1993 she worked for Homestyles Industries in Nampa, Idaho, until 2004 when she retired. She moved to Homer on June 16, 2010. Dorothy was a member of the Church of God of Denver and attended the Anchor Point Church of The Nazarene in Anchor Point. She was an officer for the Extension Club and a member for many years and was the church treasurer for over 30 years. Dorothy loved sewing, cooking, word puzzles and quilting.

The family wrote, "Dorothy was much loved by her family and all who knew her. She had a quick wit and was kind to all. She will be deeply missed by her beloved family and all who were fortunate enough to call her a friend."

She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Horton.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne Sheffield of Meridian, Idaho; sons, Claude Sheffield and his wife, Gayle of Meridian, Idaho; Joseph Sheffield of Denver; daughter, Vicky Peters and her husband, Marvin of Homer; sister, Carol Coate of Boise, Idaho; sister in-law, Velma Horton of San Francisco, Calif.; grandchildren, Heidi Willington of Nampa, Idaho; Heather Burbank of Moscow, Idaho; Holly Sheffield of Meridian, Idaho; Megan Sheffield of Nampa, Idaho; Andrew Peters of Anchorage; Monica Gaige of Peters Creek; and Mattea Peters of Homer; great-grandchildren, Derek Wellington, Nate Wellington and Zachary Wellington, all of Nampa, Idaho; and Benjamin Gaige of Peters Creek.
