Firefighters and emergency medical technicians went to two medical calls and three fire calls.

May 18

Firefighters went to two wildland fires. At 6 p.m. firefighters went to a grass fire on Brenmark Avenue off East End Road. Firefighters found 5-foot flames in the backyard of a home. The fire threatened a chicken coop and shed. Firefighters from the Alaska Division of Forestry helped control the .04-acre fire. Two victims were taken to the hospital with minor burns.

Firefighters had just finished responding to the Brenmark Avenue fire when they were called at 7:30 p.m. to another fire off Sandford Court in the East Skyline Drive area. Firefighters found a large grass fire with 4-foot flames fanned by strong and gusting winds. KESA and Division of Forestry firefighters got the 1-acre fire under control and kept it from spreading to two small cabins. Firefighters left the scene at 9:30 p.m.
