Learning marine safety
Dear Editor,

Voznesenka School students, grades 5-10, participated in the Fifth Annual Marine Safety program on May 13-14. Kachemak Selo and Razdolna students also participated in activities on May 14 at the Homer launch ramp. A huge thank you is extended to the following individuals who helped make this program a success: the Homer harbormaster for letting us use part of the launch ramp, and protecting us from the Stellar sea lion that gave us a visit; Captain Pete and his vessel, the Julia Lynn; Anna Ivy-Borland; Scott Feldman of the U.S. Coast Guard; Kachemak Gear Shed owner Ken Quinn for donating line; Park Ranger Roger MacCampbell for teaching kids K-12 at Voznesenka about boat safety; AMSEA for letting us borrow various marine safety gear; Eagle Enterprise for also letting us borrow marine safety gear; the parents that drove students to and from the harbor on Tuesday and to the staff at the Head of the Bay schools that helped with various activities, driving, observing and cleaning the gear. I thank you for all your support and positive attitudes.

Lisa Stanyk, AMSEA instructor and Head of the Bay resource teacher
