Bike to work week rolls on

About 30 riders stopped by the Homer Cycling Club's first-ever beginning of week "energizer booth" at WKFL Park Monday. In recognition of Bike to Work Week, the club offered complimentary coffee, juice, snacks, buttons, bike commuting logs and a chance to participate in a survey about bicycling in the Homer area to morning commuters on cycles. They'll be set up at the same location 7:30-9 a.m. tomorrow for Homer's sixth-annual Friday celebration.

A community ride will be held in town on May 20, rolling out at 5:30 p.m. from WKFL Park. Helmets are mandatory and the pace will allow all levels to participate.

The ride ends at the Beluga Lake Lodge in time for the Cycling Club's first annual meeting, to be held at 6:30 at Beluga Lake Lodge.

The club's purpose is "to improve conditions for bicyclists at the local level, to establish bike routes and mountain bike trails, host group rides, organize events such as races and promote bicycling as environmentally friendly, healthy and enjoyable."

Anyone who is interested is welcome to join. Monthly meetings are at 6:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday in Room B103 of Homer High School.
