Heather Ericson of Homer has earned a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from the University of Montana. Ericson is a 2006 Homer High School graduate, she has studied at the University of Alaska Anchorage and the Najing University, and traveled extensively. Her writing has appeared in the Homer News.

Nadia Jackinsky-Horrell has received the College of Arts and Sciences Deans Medal at the University of Washington as the top graduate student in the arts. Jackinsky-Horrell completed her Ph.D. in art history at the University of Washington in March. Her dissertation is entitled Alaska Native Artistic Revitalization.

The Homer Foundation has awarded $22,350 in scholarships: the Homer Community Science Scholarship, $750 to Marie Schmidt, $500 each to Dana Olesch and Sarah DWater; Alain and Daniel Rieser Scholarship, $3,000 to Dan Adickes, $1,500 to Kaya Morelli; Drew Scalzi Memorial Maritime Scholarship, $1,000 to Verinia Reutov, $500 to Schlomo Gherman; the Beluga Writing Scholarships, $3,000 each to Kyle Wentz and Mallory Drover; the Diane Wambach Shoot for the Stars Scholarship, $500 each to Aurora Roderick and Fallin Crauthers; the Kachemak Bay Medical Clinic Scholarship, $2,000 to Rayann Clutts; the Health Care Providers Scholarship, $500 each to Mallory Drover, Rayann Clutts, Jenna Kropf and Marta Todd-Hashagen; the A. W. Bill Johnson Teacher Education Scholarship, $1,000 to Erik Rosencrans; the Alice Witte Memorial Scholarship Fund, $500 to Zoia Basargin; the Constance M. Benston Music Scholarship, $550 each to Lydia Arndt and Mariah Stuart.

Enrollment for new and returning students for the 2012-2013 school year is currently underway. Call 226-1880 to make an enrollment appointment. Kindergarten students must be 5 years old by Sept. 1. All kindergarten students and students new to the school district must bring a photocopy of their birth certificate to the appointment.
