Four McNeil Canyon Elementary School students and their principal are counting themselves lucky to have survived a mid-air collision between two small planes over Denali National Park. Principal Sara Peterson and students Erin Simpson, Maggie Barker, Boyd DeZonia and Zane Cosgrove were on a field trip when the crash occurred.
A proposed 132-stall harbor near the mouth of the Anchor River is probably dead unless the Anchor Point is willing to incorporate as a second-class city, An Army Corps of Engineers assessment of the idea didn't appear to justify a $600,000 feasibility study. Meanwhile, an angry group of residents shouted their opposition to the idea of becoming a city during an advisory planning commission meeting.
