A Social Security representative visits 9 a.m.-1 a.m. at the Homer Senior Center.

Homer Senior Citizens Inc. hosts a Grand Opening for Vista Senior Housing, its new eight-unit senior independent housing building, at 6:30 p.m. at the Senior Center, 3935 Svedlund Street. A light buffet will be served. Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony the corporation holds its annual meeting in the center dining room. Call 235-7655.

The Kachemak Emergency Service Area Board meets at 7 p.m. at the borough office at 206 E. Pioneer Ave.

Parks and Recreation Commission meets 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.

Friday, May 17

The Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies holds a preschool story hour 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the center building on Lake Street. This week's theme is "Whales and Marine Mammals." Call 235-6667.

Vessels of Hope holds "The Friday Dialogues" 7-9 p.m. at Raspberry Lane School, 182 E. Pioneer Ave. Charlie Gibson presents "Africa: Tanzania, Malawi and Zambia," an informal talk about his recent travels in Africa. Call 299-3125.

Saturday, May 18

The Alaska Law Enforcement Torch Run, a fund-raiser for Special Olympics Alaska, starts with sign up at 10 a.m. and the run at 10:30 a.m. at Eagle Quality Center on the Bypass.

Sunday, May 19

Baccalaureate services, a spiritual celebration for Homer High School's class of 2002, are 3 p.m. in the Mariner Theatre. Everyone is invited to attend.

Monday, May 20

Managers Annexation Meeting is 5-7 p.m. at City Hall.

A Gala Celebration for graduating 2002 seniors is 10 p.m.-3 a.m. at the Homer Elks Lodge. A drug and alcohol-free party sponsored by senior class parents and friends with support from Homer and Anchor Point businesses, the celebration offers DJ music, lots of food and beverages, casino games and door prizes valued over $3,000, with over $1,000 in cash given away. Must be present to win.

Tuesday, May 21

Parking Task Force meets at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

Wednesday, May 22

Port/Harbor Commission meets at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
