Baseball boys undefeated in season, first home game today

The Ms knocked off Kenai and Colony last week to bring their record to 3-0 in the Northern Lights Conference baseball season.

Homer trailed 5-6 going into the sixth inning of the game at Kenai Wednesday, but tied it up that inning and scored three more in the seventh for a 9-7 win.

Head Coach Larry Kuhns said the Kenai athletes and coaches made for the Mariners' greatest test so far.

"Kenai is a pretty formidable opponent," he said. "It was a great game."

On Saturday, Homer played to a 13-6 victory at Colony, again overcoming an early deficit. Colony scored four runs in the first inning, which Homer started chipping away at with a series of singles and a walk for two points in the fifth.

They plated eight more in the sixth. Asa Stage topped off Homer's score with a long three-run-home run in the seventh.

Junior Dillon Morrison lead the hitting attack by going 5 for 5 at the plate with three runs batted in. For the game, Stage went 2 for 5 with five RBIs, Brian Rowe went 2 for 4, Tommy Bowe went 3 for 5 with two long doubles and Willy Deaver went 3 for 3 with two runs scored and a RBI.

The Mariners play their first home game today at 4 p.m. on the upper field at Homer High. They'll be in Houston on Saturday and will host Kenai and Soldotna on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
