With 1,900 estimated attendees up 10 percent from 2010 and a record number of sold out events, Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival organizers counted last weekend's event a success. Birders counted 24 separate shorebird species, such as the greater yellowlegs photographed through a spotting scope, right, at Mariner Park Lagoon. More birders than ever participated in the junior bird program and the Big Spit Birding Challenge. The 20th annual shorebird festival is May 10-13, 2012.
