At his request, no services are planned.
Hanson was born July 11, 1914 in Owatonna, Minn. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941 and served during World War II with the Engineer Aviation Battalion. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
Mr. Hanson retired in 1973 and moved to Alaska in 1975 and lived in Homer for four years, Haines for three years and then moved to Ninilchik, where he resided until his death. He built the book shelves and book cases for the Ninilchik Community Library and enjoyed woodworking.
His family said, "George said never volunteer, but he did, by letting his wife do all of the volunteering."
Hanson is survived by his wife of 27 years, Odile; stepsons, Darrell A. Shay of Hayden Lake, Idaho, Delbert A. Shay of Oakhaust, Calif., and Darren A. Shay of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; sister, Florence Bjoraker of Owatonna, Minn.; nieces, Carol Ferris of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Dr. Julie Bjoraker of Dover, Minn.; and a nephew, Dr. David Bjoraker of Tampa, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Ninilchik Community Library Building Fund, P.O. Box 39165, Ninilchik, AK 99639.
