Summer soccer on tap
The Soccer Association of Homer is planning big things for its tenth summer. The program is expanding to include two month of recreation league play for kids age 9-15 and has brought in a new full-time coach/administrator. The association will hold several camps and skill-builder programs for younger players and a travel team for more experienced players age 10 and up. Beginning in late May, the instructional, recreational and competitive programs will be run by coach Tommie CarlinSchauer, a Wisconsin high school coach who teaches a European style of soccer. CarlinSchauer has family in the area and has been to town. The summer rec leagues begin in early June and the first competitive travel team tournament is slated for June 6-8 in Anchorage. A parent meeting is scheduled for tonight at 6:30 p.m. at West Homer Elementary. The final registration for the first rec league is May 27-31. Registration for younger players' programs is currently underway. Visit www.homersoccer.com for more information or to print out a registration form. Volunteers also are needed to keep the program inexpensive. Currently, the leagues and camps cost roughly half of similar programs in Anchorage.
