Business workshops offered in May in Homer

The Alaska Small Business Development Center has scheduled the following workshops for May at the Homer Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center:

• Two free "Starting A Business" seminars will be offered in May, one at 10 a.m. May 11 and the other at 1 p.m. May 25. Bryan Zak, regional director for the Southwest Alaska Small Business Development Center, will cover basic questions and offer helpful resources in these two-hour workshops, while preparing businesses for a productive relationship with the Alaska Small Business Development Center and its partner programs and explaining the value of SBDC's free counseling services.

• A workshop titled "Smart Solutions for Small Businesses" will be offered from 1-2 p.m. on May 18. Cost is $20. Meg Cicciarella will offer an overview of the various retirement plans available to small businesses and their employees. Participants will receive a voucher for an individual consultation to discuss their specific needs. Deadline to register is May 11.

• A workshop titled "Marketing Your Business" will be from 1-3 p.m. May 22. Cost is $30. Zak will explain the differences between advertising and marketing and why both are important. He will provide tips that will help participants plan their sales strategy to get their company's service or product information to buyers — while keeping within their budgets. The registration deadline is May 18.
