Pay teachers for time

Dear Editor,

As a student at Homer High School, I am concerned and directly affected by the time our teachers spend at school. A "good" teacher will be hard at work tutoring and helping students from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. The recent conflict is that these teachers are only paid from 8 a.m. until 3:45 p.m. All the dedicated teachers at Homer High who normally stay to help their students until 4 p.m., and sometimes later, have had enough of putting in these extra hours without getting paid. I'd consider myself an average student, but when I need extra help on an assignment it sometimes takes more time to get help than my teachers are being paid for. I strongly believe this is unfair. With their current controversy occurring so close to the end of the year, I feel my grades and performance at school is in jeopardy; therefore teachers should be paid for every hour they spend at school educating and helping future generations learn. It's unfair to the teachers, and unfair to the students alike.
