Popeye's shine despite snow

Despite a record-breaking snow storm in Anchorage, the Popeye Wrestling team traveled north to compete against more than 300 wrestlers at the South Anchorage High School tournament hosted by the Anchorage Avalanche Wrestling Club.



 
 
Twelve Popeye wrestlers competed, with nine bringing home medals.

Austin Shafford won all four of his matches to stay undefeated.Ethan Pitzman also won four matches before losing in the finals. Wyatt Alborn won two matches in route to his second place finish. One of the highlights was a five-point fireman's carry by Zack Mayes against John Pressler from Anchorage. Popeye's final meet will be at the state tournament in two week at the Wasilla Sports Complex.

Anchorage tournament results

Pre-Bantams (5-6 years old) 45 Austin Shafford 1st Place, 55 Ethan Pitzman 2nd Place.

Bantams (7-8) 75 Wyatt Alborn 2nd Place, 75++ Jadin Mann 3rd Place.

Novice (11-12) 80 David Ware DNP.

Cadet (15-16) 140 Travis Catron DNP, 152 Logan Patrick DNP, 152 Mitch Wyatt 2nd Place.

Junior (17-18) 152 Zack Mayes 3rd Place, 152 Robby Brymer 1st Place, 160 Tris Brymer 2nd Place.

Open (18+) 211 Steve Wolfe 1st Place
