The Alaska Marine Safety Education Association will offer a U.S. Coast Guard approved fishing vessel safety and drill conductor course May 12-13 at the Best Western Bidarka Inn. Cost is $175 for the public, $125 AMSEA members and is free for licensed commercial fishermen. To register, call (888) 508-3287 or (907) 747-3287. For information, call 235-5955.

The American Red Cross of Alaska will hold the following Disaster Response Training classes to teach community volunteers the necessary knowledge and skills to provide emergency relief at the scene of a disaster:

Fulfilling Our Mission: Translating Your Compassion into Community Action will be from 6-9 p.m. May 16; Client Casework: Providing Emergency Assistance will be from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. May 17; and Shelter Operations and Shelter Simulation will be from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. May 18. All classes will be at City Hall Council Chambers. Free. Call (907) 646-5401.
