Hospice of Homer will hold a fund-raiser raffle for a painting by Byron Birdsall. Tickets, $10, are available at the Art Shop Gallery from 5-7:30 p.m. May 2 and from 1-5:45 p.m. May 3.

Community members are invited to watch Birdsall paint at the gallery during those times. The raffle drawing will be at 5:45 p.m. May 3 at the gallery. Ticket holders need not be present to win. Call 235-6583.

Birth 2 Three presents the puppet show "Star of the Sea" at 3 p.m. May 3 at Paul Banks Elementary School.

There will be a square and contra dance with music by Spit City Slickers at 7:30 p.m. May 3 at McNeil Canyon Elementary School. Bring clean, soft-soled shoes to dance in. Beginners are welcome. Admission is $6; kids under 16 years get in free.

Kachemak Bay Quilters is seeking quilts for a quilt show, to be held May 10-11. Drop quilts off at Seams to Bee on Ocean Drive from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. May 5-6. Entry forms are available at Seams to Bee; fee is $1.

Downward Dog Productions presents Bruce Cockburn in concert at 7 p.m. May 7 at the Mariner Theatre. Tickets, $36, are available at the Homer Bookstore, the Homer Chamber of Commerce, Solstice Music and www.inticketing.com.

The Alaska State Council on the Arts is seeking nominations for the 2008 Governor's Awards for the Arts. Categories are arts education, individual artist, arts organization and Native artist. To submit a nomination form, visit www.eed.state.ak.us/aksca. Deadline is May 30.
