The Alaska Department of Fish and Game will offer a black bear baiting clinic from 6-9 p.m. April 25 at the Kenai Peninsula Sport, Rec and Trade Show at the Central Peninsula Sport Center in Soldotna.

Completion of an ADFG-approved clinic is required before registering a bait station in units 6D, 7, 14A, 15, 16A and 20B. Free. Call 262-9368.

The Kenai Peninsula United Way is accepting applications for new member agencies. To qualify for admission an agency must have a 501(c)(3) tax exempt status, have been in operation on the peninsula for at least two years, have an elected board of directors and provide a health and human service not offered by another local member agency. Deadline is May 2. Call 283-9500.

The Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward will hold a 10th anniversary community party May 3. Alaska residents with identification will be admitted free all day and on the 10th day of every month through 2008.

The center will host an open house and celebration with guest speakers, food and entertainment from 3-7 p.m. Call 1 (800) 224-2525.

Vendor sign-up is available for a Homer Street Fair to be held from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. May 5 in the NOMAR parking lot. Holland America cruise ship passengers will be stopping at the fair. Local artists and businesses are invited to apply for booths.

Cost is $50 for a 10-by-10-foot booth, $100 for a 10-by-10-foot booth under a canopy and $10 for an 8-foot table. Make checks payable to the Driftwood Inn and drop off at the inn during business hours. Deadline is Friday.

Applications for the Kachemak Bay Shorebird Amateur Photo Contest are available at NOMAR, Eagle Eye Photo and Homer Chamber of Commerce. The theme is "Alaska: Scenics and Wildlife." Deadline for entries is 6 p.m. May 5. Call 235-8363 or e-mail nomar@xyz.net.

The Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival is May 8-11. The festival will feature events and activities for birders and non-birders of all ages and skills.

The shorebird program has been printed and is available at the Homer Chamber of Commerce and the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center. Online registration for events has started. Complete details are in the program or at www.homeralaska.org. Call 235-7740.

ACS will hold a town meeting from 6-8 p.m. May 15 at the Best Western Bidarka Inn. There will be an overview of the company's fiber-optic cable construction project, currently underway. Call (907) 297-3115.

There will be a United Way Fox Island dinner cruise and auction from 3:30-9:30 p.m. May 17. The event includes a sightseeing cruise, dinner, no-host bar and outcry and silent auctions. Tickets, $50 per person or $500 per corporate-sponsored table, are available at the United Way office in Kenai and at the Homer News. Proceeds benefit the Kenai Peninsula United Way. Fall registration has begun at Faith Christian Preschool for 3- through 5-year-old children. September tuition and immunization records required. Pick up registration forms Tuesday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.-noon. School begins Sept. 2. Call 235-7600.
