The USCGC Hickory is offering a $1,000 scholarship essay contest to graduating students in the Homer area. The essay is to explain the importance of lifelong community service and how the writer's strengths and weaknesses affect the organization(s) with which they volunteer. The scholarship may be used at any accredited two-year, four-year or trade school within the United States to help defray educational cost for the first year of schooling. The scholarship money will be forwarded to the college, university or trade school of the winner's choice in the winner's name upon receipt of a copy of the winner's confirmed admission to their chosen school.
