Little Pelés can start strapping on their field cleats. The summer youth soccer league is now open for registration.

There will be a short parent/manager meeting at 6:30 p.m. April 25 at Homer High School for those interested in competitive soccer. Competitive soccer is open for players ages 11-15.

In years past, Homer has sent four boys and four girls teams up to Anchorage tournaments in the summer. This year's first tournament in Anchorage will be May 31-June 1. The season will run until early August with several practices and friendly games each week.

The recreational program registration is also open online. The season starts June 7 for players ages 3-12. There are two sessions, June 5-28 at West Homer Elementary and July 10-Aug. 2 at Homer Middle School. Practices will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with open soccer on Wednesdays including league games for older kids.

There is also an Anchorage tournament in July for recreation players 10-11 years old that the association hopes to enter.

Cost is $65 per player per session for recreation soccer and $45 for Little Feet (ages 3-5).

The cost for competitive soccer is $175 per player, plus $70 for each tournament to cover fees, travel expenses and housing in University of Alaska Anchorage dorms.

Soccer director Tommie Carlin-Schauer will return to manage summer programs. Registration can be done online at the Soccer Association of Homer website (www.homersoccer.com) or e-mail homersoccer@gmail.com.
