Joshua, the son of Tom and Linda Harris of Anchor Point, is a 1998 Homer High graduate. He commercial fished numerous seasons, completed Maritime School in Piney Point, Md., and worked as a Merchant Marine. Josh now attends UAA pursuing an Early Childhood Education degree.
Josh and Heather enjoy back country snowboarding, snowmachining, mountain biking, diving, photography, traveling, volunteering, and spending time with family.
Last year Josh and Heather traveled for eight months in Guatemala volunteering at Hermano Pedro Hospital and God's Child in Antigua, Safe Passage in Guatemala City, and Proyecto Fe in San Pedro. Their affection for Guatemala and a desire to share their passion with their families inspired Josh and Heather to choose Antigua as a wedding and honeymoon destination. The marriage ceremony took place in a picturesque rooftop garden at Posada de los Leones in Antigua with their parents in attendance. Pat McDonnell of Branson, Mo., officiated and a candlelight dinner under the stars followed the wedding. In honor of the newlyweds, an Alaska reception is planned for early June.
A unique volunteering honeymoon allowed Josh and Heather opportunity to lend a hand with service projects and visit Guatemalan friends. Their parents joined the couple in a Helps International-Proyecto Fe venture to install a clay fired wood stove in the rural home of their "adopted" San Pedro family.
Josh and Heather currently reside in Anchorage.
They met in Homer four years ago at an outdoor concert. Joshua proposed to Heather at the top of Resurrection Pass on a summer mountain bike trip.
