Griffin, Davis receive library learner awards

Friends of the Homer Library Board of Directors has announced Norman "Dick" Griffin, 93, as the recipient of the 2011 Lifelong Learner Award and AdiJo Davis, 15, as the first winner of the Youth! Learner Award. They will be guests of honor at the Celebration of Lifelong Learning to be held Saturday at 7 p.m.

Griffin was nominated by Paul and Linda Rourke. Davis was nominated by Roberta Copeland Paulino.

Clem Tillion will be the keynote speaker. An Alaska resident since 1947, Tillion commercial fished, has been a fisheries management spokesperson, was a nine-term state legislator and a pioneer of the Halibut Cove community. The event includes music by The Irish Lords, food by Maura's Café & Fine Catering and The Tree of Learning Trivia Contest. A silent auction and ticket sales benefit the Friends of the Homer Library.
