Rykaczewski swims to gold

The Kachemak Swim Club's Renae Rykaczewski won a gold medal at the Northwest Sectionals held March 22-24 near Seattle. Rykaczewski took a high-point first place in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2 minutes, 10.43 seconds and placed sixth and seventh in the100 and 200 butterfly events respectively.

Ten-year-old Dakota Zellin set an Alaska state record in the 500 freestyle for boys under 10 with a time of 6:22.82.

Katie Faulkner swam to a seventh-place finish in the 1,000 freestyle finals. At the Far Western Sectionals March 15-17 in Walnut Creek, Calif., Jake Bell took seventh in the 50 freestyle, while Andrew Vait swam to a sixth in the 200 breast.

Popeye wrestlers hit mats

Isaac Deaton, Tris Brymer, Mike Feilding, Camron Hagen and Melissa Buster all won weight-class titles Saturday as the Popeye Wrestling Club traveled to a Soldotna tournament.
