'Week of Young Child' in April

The Week of the Young Child, April 10-16, is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, an early childhood education association of almost 90,000 members and a network of more than 300 local, state, and regional affiliates. The purpose of the week is to draw public attention to the needs of young children and their families and to recognize early childhood programs and services meeting those needs.

Locally, Families First in Homer: A Best Beginnings Partnership, a coalition of nonprofit agencies and individuals who support early childhood education, has organized a week of events celebrating Week of the Young Child. The activities include play groups, story hours, education forums and mini workshops on parenting. All events are free and open to the public. For a list of events, see http://pop411.org and search for Families First.
