Homer Alaska - Letters

At the age of 57, I am considered to be an old fart by the majority of society, especially prospective employers.

Physically strong and at my high school weight, I consider myself to be ready, willing and able to perform work that many younger men bitch about. My extensive and diversified history has been noted by reviewers of my resume. With great enthusiasm, initial reviewers say that I am just what they are looking for. The next step is to be dropped like a hot potato.

Ageism, like racism and sexism, is illegal but is the prevalent form of discrimination. Having observed the same job openings at these companies for several weeks I am convinced the lack of consideration for a position is ageism. One could not have obtained the knowledge, years of experience and diversification I have without growing older. Long live the old farts.
