Burn permits required

Starting April 1, burn permits will be required for any open burning. Alaska statutes set the start of the wildland fire season as April 1. Permits are required April 1 to Aug. 31. Open burning includes burning brush, grass, slash and yard debris. Burn piles must be surrounded by a nonburnable surface of at lest 15 feet. Do not leave burn piles unattended and have tools and water to control the fire. For more information on burn permits and requirements for local fire departments, visit the Alaska Division of Forestry website at forestry.alaska.gov/burn.
